Let's explore your idea for a social venture
You think you have a great idea for a social venture, but how can you be sure?
Knowing where to start, and how to undertake a basic analysis of your idea, is simple. Follow the steps in our Social Venture Honeycomb, to help you explore your thinking and to fill in the gaps, so you can decide if your idea has social venture potential.
There is no ‘right way’ to do this – write a sentence or ten, use dot points, draw a picture. A large piece of paper and different coloured pens/pencils are really handy. You can even use a computer.
Start with describing the problem you want to solve. You can also exchange the word ‘problem’ with ‘issue’ or ‘need’.
Then, describe the purpose of your social venture – what will be achieved?
Now describe your idea – this is the big picture of what you will do. You might include important aspects of how the venture will operate, the products or services offered, or how the profits will be used.
Now, it’s time for the honeycomb. Give your venture a working name, and then record your answers to the questions. It doesn’t matter where you start, just start.
What have you discovered?
The Social Venture Honeycomb helps you start the planning process, so you can make good decisions and take your idea to the next step, whether that might be as a community project, a small business or a social enterprise.
So, explore your idea and get started. You too could become a change maker; creating a solution that achieves a positive social impact.
