The program offers:

  • Practical sessions with experienced social enterprise and business operators who share their skills and knowledge on areas such as social impact, pitching, business planning, legal obligations, financials and communications

  • A dynamic network of fellow social innovators, community leaders and support organisations to provide vital inspiration, encouragement and connections through the program and beyond

  • A focus on the individual, their social enterprise and community

  • An enterprise business plan that has been critiqued by experts.

Start Strong

Strong knowledge, stronger business for Aboriginal entrepreneurs. Start Strong is an education and mentoring program designed to support Aboriginal entrepreneurs to establish strong foundations and develop business acumen as they chart their course to business ownership. Whether an Aboriginal entrepreneur’s business idea is for-profit, profit-for-purpose or a social enterprise, Start Strong will help them to scope and scale their (ad)venture.

It will identify and guide entrepreneurs with innovative and scalable ideas from vision through to venture using workshops, webinars, peer-to-peer learning, cultural support, networking and mentoring. This three tiered program is co-designed by an Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal delivery team able to ensure participants experiences and learning prepares them to navigate the business world from a position of cultural strength.

The program is tiered, beginning with community conversations and a series of awareness raising, ideation and talent seeking stand-alone workshops for Aboriginal entrepreneurs at any stage of their business journey. These are followed by the six-month Educate to Accelerate program for entrepreneurs looking to establish strong foundations and develop business acumen to launch or supercharge their business. The final tier provides one to one mentoring services.

This program is a collaboration with The Cultural Consultancy Group.

Introduction to social enterprise

This three-hour workshop is designed for people who are hearing a lot about social enterprise and want to know what it is and how it works. We define what a social enterprise is; explain different business models and how they work; and describe the potential to deliver solutions for community needs including social and economic development.

This workshop assists participants to consider if a social enterprise is relevant for them and/or their organisation and the next steps to take.

Social venture workshop

The Social Venture workshop is delivered over a full day to help people better understand their venture; identify if their idea has small business, community program or social enterprise potential; to better understand the business planning process; and raise awareness of local networks and resources.

Participants are guided through a social venture mapping activity that provides them the beginnings of an enterprise business action plan.

One-to-one or small group mentoring, professional coaching and advisory services. Individual support focused on current challenges, identified needs, enterprise goals and growth aspirations.

Before you contact us

Think a grant might be helpful? First ensure you know the strategic direction of your organisation and the activities or infrastructure you'd like to have funded.

Preparing to write a grant? Do you know what to do, the documents required and the steps involved? We can help.

Engaging us to run a workshop to teach your team about grant writing or preparing a winning business case? Excellent - we'd love to hear from you.

Applying for a grant? It's not essential, but ideally prior to contacting us you should have an idea of the grant you wish to apply for and have an outline of your proposal.  Finding a grant is free. If you haven't identified funding yet, Grant Ready's a handy resource.

Business case to prepare? It's helpful if you know the bare bones of your proposal and the timeline you'd like us to work to before you call.

How long it takes depends on the extent of the work required and the level of research and supporting documentation you're able to provide. Usually, the greater the grant, the more time we'll require to work on it.

We routinely work after-hours and offer a weekend service by arrangement - brief us on Friday afternoon (ideally earlier) and if you've provided all of the necessary background and supporting material, we'll work on your application over the weekend and where possible, have it completed and in your inbox by 9am Monday.

When you contact us, to help us best serve your inquiry we recommend that you first describe your project and tell us what you want to achieve.  Our general response time is one business day.

Our costs depend on the time commitment and detail of the work to be undertaken. Once we have an understanding of your requirements we can provide a fixed quote. To assist you with an idea of costs, an indication of the fee you might expect is shown below.
